Runes are fixed to the item when socketed, and the rune's attributes will be added to the item you added it to. Check the Library for a list of all runes. Now, if you add a sequence of Runes in the correct order, in a base/white item with the exact number of sockets, that item will transform into a new item, called Rune Words .
