Runes are fixed to items when socketed, and the rune's attributes will be added to the item you socketed it into. Check the Library for a list of all runes. Now, if you add a sequence of Runes in the correct order into a base/white item with the exact number of sockets, that item will transform into a new item, called Rune Words .
